Posh Travelogue-Malaysia/Kuala Lumpur/Kwai Chai Hong 鬼仔巷-☆☆☆☆☆-
Overview of Kwai Chai Hong/鬼仔巷
Thanks to the popularity of Banksy and Instagram, street arts becomes one of the MUST destination for tourists. In Malaysia, those of Penang are famous, however, you can find some spots in Kuala Lumpur, too.
Among those, I recommend Kwai Chai Hong area because you can enjoy not only the street arts but also coffee and sweets on the day and alcohol at night! It is located at Jaalan (St.) Petalingin in China town, utilizing old Chinese shophouses, now used as cafe, restaurants and bars.
The atmosphere is good old time ’60’s. Cafe is closed at night, bars at daytime. For instance, famous local chocolate company Beryl’s cafe “kaffe 16 and Lot 18” is closed at 1800(the kitchen close at 1600,i.e., around 1700)
Same as Chinese restaurants you can enjoy local foods like Bunn Choon Resturant famous for egg tart
and Dim sum or Ho Kow Hainam Kopitiam for chicken rice.
Many Chinese Tourists on the day and the Caucasians at night.
I would like to enjoy both atmosphere, enjoy local restaurant at daytime, beer with dim sum at night.
How to walk inKwai Chai Hong/鬼仔巷
When you enter the street, there are the lanterns hanging above, there are some restaurants and cafe on both side. There is the entrance at right hand side. At the entrance, there is a statue of a young women with Chinese dress on the right, some people take a photo with her or with background!
You can see the red bridge in front of you. At the left hand side, there is a first paintings of a couple called “Red Bridge”
After crossing the bridge, there is a narrow street dead end on both sides. There are plenty of wallpaintings!
First, you will see a lamp and next to a large tree, there is a man and a poster. A poster changes after a while. A lamp is different from the 100 years old one.
Turn around, there are some murals on the right direction.
“Erhu uncle” is the middle age man playing the traditional two strings musical instruments called Erhu.
Next to uncle is”Kids playing” murals. You can join with them on the left hand side.
“Calligrapher” looks to me as a best mural here.
“Concubine” is suited for night, I took a photo at night. Inside of the building is the bar as above. Baijiu means strong white liqueur of China.
At the end of the street, there is a wall with several paintings. By stairway, you can climb to the second floor.
On the right hand side, below one is “Jump Rope Game” where you can join and play with the kids on the wall. Above of them, a woman hang the laundry outside. On the left, there is a barber painting, on the floor real barber chair is situated, you can sit and pose as a guest!
This is all about the small lane. It is up to you visit at day time or night time or both!
